Analog Series

Q796

Emulation from classic hardware is mounted on a digital frame for enhanced control.

Q796 is built starting from an emulation of a classic mastering device.

Includes three modules for stereo mastering and mixing:

- expander and pump-up compressor

- compressor with enhanced functions and negative ratio

- limiter

Note: Look-ahead function (up to 10ms) has been added to the analog emulation.

Delay compensation is reported to host each time the switch is toggled. Verify the update in your host.

A detailed description
AUDIO SIGNAL PATH stereo audio input -> expander -> compressor -> limiter -> stereo audio output
Expander - On button Switches on/off the WHOLE plugin
Expander - Exp button Switches on/off the expander section
Expander - GR-limit Limits the gain modification introduced by the expander. When the limit is reached, the gain ratio is set to 1:1. Look at the gain reduction curve, while moving the control, for an easy understanding.
Expander - Ratio Sets the expander gain ratio. PLEASE NOTE: rotate right -> pump-up compressor, rotate left -> expander. Look at the gain modification curve for an easy understanding.
Expander - Thr Sets the threshold for the gain control.
Expander - Rel Sets the release time constant for the gain modification curve.
Expander - Att Sets the attack time for the gain modification curve.
Expander - Led meter Shows the gain modification.
Compressor - Comp button Switches on/off the compressor section.
Compressor - Off button Switches off the automatic gain compensation funtion. This function tries to compensate for level variation while setting threshold and ratio for the compressor. This helps while comparing sounds. The compression gain modification curve (right) shows "AG -12". This is the reference level. Gain compensation is engaged when the signal reaches this level.
Compressor - S-C ins button Replaces the internal control sidechain with the external one (inputs 3-4).
Compressor - Rev button The compressor has a feed-forward design. This button activates the feed-back design.
Compressor - Thr knob Sets the threshold for gain modification curve.
Compressor - Crest knob Sets the time constant for the control signal (before the gain modification curve). Seamlessly from peak to RMS.
Compressor - Knee knob Sets the "knee" of the gain modification cirve (from hard to very smooth). Look at the gain modification graph for an easy understanding.
Compressor - Rel knob Sets the release time constant for the gain modification circuit.
Compressor - Att knob Sets the attack time constant for the gain modification circuit.
Compressor - Ratio knob Sets the ratio for the gain modification curve (above the threshold).
Compressor - Gain knob Sets the output gain for this compression section (before the limiter section).
Compressor - Env knob Engages a special automatic release time control. Fast release gives artifacts on bass frequencies. This knob sets the level of action of a circuit that dinamically increases the release time, proportionally to bass frequencies content.
Compressor - Fill knob Mixes dry signal (sample aligned) to effected (compressor section) signal.
Compressor - Dyn color knob Introduces harmonic distortion, proportional to gain modification.
Compressor - Static color knob Introduces constant harmonic distortion.
Compressor - GR-limit knob Limits the amount of gain modification introduced by the compressor. When the gain modification is above this limit, the gain ratio is 1:1. Look at the compressor gain modification curve while moving the knob for an easy understanding.
Compressor - Int knob Introduces another, very long, time constant. Useful to compensate for long-time sinal level drift.
Compressor - Led meter Indicates the amount of gain modification introduced by this compressor section.
Compressor - Look ahead button (under the graphs) Engages the look ahead function for the compressor section.
Compressor - Look ahead slider (under the graphs) Sets the lookahead time (the delay between audio and control signal).
Limiter - Lim button Switches on/off the limiter section.
Limiter - Thr knob Sets the threshold for the gain reduction curve.
Limiter - Rel knob Sets the release time constant for the automatic gain reduction circuit.
Limiter - Att knob Sets the attack time constant for the automatic gain reduction circuit.
Limiter - Rat knob Sets the gain reduction ratio for the automatic gain reduction circuit. NOTE: when set to oo, the limiter section switches to a different algorithm. It is a brickwall, limiting to 0dB, circuit. A "Limiting to 0dB" message appears on the gain reduction curve graph.
Limiter - Gain knob Sets the output gain for this limiter section (the plugin's output).
Limiter - Led meter Shows the amount of gain reduction introduced by this limiter section.
Gain curve graphs Show the gain modification curve for each section.
Signal graphs Shows input signal level, control signal level, gain reduction, output signal level for each section.
